Beginnings
Peachtree High School was completed in 1969,
two years ahead of schedule, due to the diligent work of neighborhood
parents who completed a survey of the area showing the number and ages of
every child in the area. They took this information to the County proving
enough enrollment potential for the school to be completed. Before
Peachtree High opened, students attended Sequoia in Chamblee and
elementary children went to Hightower on Tilly Mill. Chesnut
Elementary was opened in the early 70's.

Logo
|

|
In the mid seventies
students wanted to have the gym decorated with a logo depicting the
Minuteman to represent the school team name, Patriot. The logo was created
by students in an art class and was mounted above the Gymnasium entrance.
It remained there through the change from a high school to a middle
school, until 2003, when the logo was removed and replaced by another logo
depicting a "Patriot" minus his rifle. One might assume that this was a
nod to political correctness. The old logo was sturdily built and would
have required nothing more than a fresh paint job to remain in service. |
